BAIL's Tales August : Shuddering and Creaking
As I write this second edition of “Generations”, my office in the beautiful Allan Bean Centre is shuddering and creaking all over again – reminiscent of a recent time all too familiar to us Cantabrians. The large pine trees surrounding the once Utley Reserve are being felled to make way for the new car park and we are feeling most of them as they hit the ground. I am very happy to report to you all that the resident Bell Bird has simply moved to the trees beyond the Helipad and we are all hopeful it remains.
It is with great pleasure we introduce Jason Nicholls who is newly appointed as a BAIL Research Fellow, joining Johnny Bourke and Carolyn Beaver. Many of you will remember Jason from his role as physiotherapist for many years at the Burwood Spinal Unit.
Jason will embark upon his Master of Health Sciences research project with funding generously and collaboratively awarded by the Ministry of Social Development, Canterbury Community Trust, Rotary and the Canterbury Orthopaedic Services Trust.
We are extremely grateful to our funders for their commitment to this major undertaking.
Jason's study will involve looking at issues people with mobility impairments faced at the time of the Christchurch earthquakes and he will be supervised by researchers from the University of Otago. His study will compliment work being undertaken by Johnny Bourke and Jo Nunnerley for their Phd’s.
Many of you will be aware of our regular Research Peer Group that meets 6-7 times a year. These stimulating meetings are always well attended (I think it is the cake we provide!) and each one is completely different to any before. If you would like to be added to the invitation list please let me know at hansb@burwood.org.nz.
How about another quote to finish off with? Another of my favourites “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him” J.W. von Goethe
