BAIL'S TALES : February

Happy New Year Generations readers! The BAIL office is all a buzz as we begin 2014 for two reasons. Firstly we welcome a new research assistant and secondly we have an exciting opportunity to showcase research in spinal cord injury with a mini symposium in March.

New Research Assistant
Rachelle Martin is joining us to assist Dr Debbie Snell with her HRC funded Mild Traumatic Brain Injury studies. She is undertaking this work whilst at the same time working on her PhD in rehabilitation so it will be a big year for Rachelle.

“Living and aging with Spinal Cord Injury” Mini Symposium 19th March 2014:
BAIL with the support of the Burwood Spinal Unit, is hosting an afternoon symposium on living and aging with spinal cord injury. Keynote speakers will include Dr Martin Sullivan, Associate Professor Sarah Derrett and Professor Charlotte Paul from Massey University who will present findings from their longitudinal SCI Life Histories research (two years on) and Richard Smaill who will present from his completed PhD on living and aging with a SCI. We will also have short presentations from local researchers. The afternoon will conclude with drinks and nibbles.
This event is confirmed for Wednesday 19th March (Not Thurs 20th as mentioned previously) at the Alan Bean Centre so please mark this date in your diaries and we look forward to seeing you there. Invitations and information about speakers will be circulated soon.

WHAT’S COMING UP?
BAIL Research Peer Group Meetings
These will begin again in March with the Living and aging with Spinal Cord Injury event. We are planning some exciting changes to the format for some of our Peer Group meetings this year so watch this space. If you are not on our invitation list be sure to get yourself on it by emailing me at hansb@burwood.org.nz

From all of us at BAIL we wish you a fulfilling and fruitful 2014 – Let’s do some meaningful things together!
