BAILS TALES : SEPTEMBER
Kia Ora from the team at BAIL
It has been quite a month since you last read about us.
Donald Rumsfeld famously said “…there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns” The BAIL team this last month have faced a lot unknowns and much uncertainty and it was a case of holding our breath there for a bit. Gladly we can tell you that all is now known.
BAIL and The NZ Spinal Trust have been most generously offered the Marshland Room to operate from until we get a more permanent solution to our office needs. We should be up and running there on Monday 15th September and you are certainly most welcome to visit us. We have said this many times already but wish to put it in print – we are tremendously grateful to the CDHB and in particular Dan and his team plus the NZ Spinal Trust for finding a way to keep us on the Burwood Campus. It really is a special culture here at Burwood with an incredible willingness to help each other out when required. There are certainly exciting times ahead for BAIL and we are thrilled to be able to team up with our old Allan Bean Centre buddies again in the new Allan Bean Centre Marshland Campus.
Despite the growing challenge to find meeting space at Burwood we were still able to hold our regular Peer Group meeting. Young researchers Johnny Bourke and Tracey Croot both presented superbly and with great humour. As per usual comments from the floor were excellent and all came away glad to have attended.
STUDY UPDATES
The Ready to Roll survey is underway and still needs participants.
This nationwide survey explores issues associated with wheelchair user’s readiness for emergencies and their opinions about a proposed Disabled Persons Emergency Response Register to assist with planning and response measures.
Anyone who is 18 years or older, uses a wheelchair ½ the time or more and lives in the community anywhere in New Zealand is encouraged to fill in the questionnaire. For further information and to complete the questionnaire online, check out the webpage at www.burwood.org.nz/node/62 or contact Jason Nicholls at nicja964@student.otago.ac.nz Ph: 021 02316451.
