BAIL'S TALES : NOVEMBER
Kia Ora from the team at BAIL
We are now well settled into The Marshland Room and have a sense of being back to business as usual again. It has been a busy time for some of our team attending important events across the globe and we are keen to tell you about them in this months’ BAIL’s Tales.
Dr Debbie Snell has recently returned from the American Congress in Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) annual conference, this year in the beautiful Canadian city of Toronto. This is the largest multidisciplinary rehabilitation conference in the world and has something for everyone from clinicians to researchers. This was a great opportunity to reconnect with our North American collaborators and colleagues and Debbie was joined at the conference by a large contingent of researchers from AUT (Auckland). We have some new projects emerging from these connections so watch this space!
Anne Sinnott recently attended CONNECTIONS: the Spinal Cord Injury Network (SCIN) conference in Sydney followed by the ‘Think Tank’ the next day. She and Dr Jen Dunn flew the New Zealand flag at this conference as the only NZer’s attending. Anne and Jen had the opportunity to meet Associate Professor Kim Anderson-Erisman from the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. A/Prof Anderson-Erisman has been acknowledged for being the first to raise the possibility that people living with SCI might differ in their consideration of what is important to focus on in SCI research.
Through the marvels of modern technology (videoconference from the University of Otago, Wellington campus), Dr Carolyn Passmore presented at the ‘Sleep Down Under’ conference held in Perth. This is the annual conference for the Australasian Sleep Association. She presented some work from her Masters research and her presentation was entitled "CPAP and SCI - What's it really like??"
BAIL will be very well and ably represented at the ANSCoS (Australia and New Zealand Spinal Cord Society) conference in Auckland in November. Many of our team are attending as invited speakers so we wish them well with their presentations. This will be another great opportunity for connections with our New Zealand and Australian collaborators and colleagues. We look forward to hearing all about the conference on their return.
