Two new roles at BAIL

BURWOOD ACADEMY OF INDEPENDENT LIVING APPOINTMENTS:
LEAD RESEARCHER and KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION SPECIALIST

I am pleased to confirm that the Board of the Burwood Academy of Independent Living (BAIL), on the recommendation of the BAIL Academy Director Dr Deborah Snell, has appointed John Bourke (PhD Candidate), to the role of Lead Researcher and Jo Nunnerley (PhD Graduand) to the role of Knowledge Translation Specialist.

Kia ora from the expanding BAIL Team,

This month we warmly welcomed Jenny Freeman (no relation to Claire) to our team. Jenny began her part time roll last month and comes with accounting skills to support Brian in the BAIL office. Managing the financial accounting around the many and varied research projects we have at any one time requires specialised expertise and as we grow and expand, extra back office support will help keep the BAIL machine rolling.

BAIL Research scholar Johnny Bourke, recently had his research discussed on Radio New Zealand. Johnny has almost completed the first stage of his PhD research and has found that the various barriers created by the 2010/11 earthquakes have increased the energy demand for people who use wheelchairs.

New BAIL Research Fellow joins the team.

It is with great pleasure we introduce Tracey Croot who is newly appointed as a BAIL Research Fellow, joining our current fellows, Jason Nicholls, Johnny Bourke and Carolyn Beaver.

Tracey is conducting a Masters of Health Sciences project through the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Medicine, University of Otago Christchurch.
“The implementation of a spinal cord impairment registry into clinical practice in the Burwood Spinal Unit, New Zealand.”

Happy New Year from the team at BAIL

As the Burwood Campus continues to evolve and develop around us we are reminded that good things take time. As at the time of writing the BAIL office is still temporarily located in the Marshland Room next to Travis Café after the Allan Bean Centre was closed mid-2014. The space is working out well for us and we are enjoying working in closer quarters with our NZ Spinal Trust colleagues.
