Development of a peer support outcome measure
Research Framework
Engaging Rehabilitation
Overview
The purpose of this study is to identify the positive and negative outcomes of peer support. The purpose will be achieved through a Delphi study. The goal of this Delphi study is to have people with SCI who have had experience of peer support come to a consensus on the outcomes of peer support. The survey consists of identifying the positive and negative outcomes of peer support by rating your level of importance for each outcome. These outcomes have been identified through past research.
Method
The study will be completed in multiple rounds via an online survey. Participants include peer supporters, people with SCI receiving peer support, and SCI organization staff.
In round one, participants will be asked to rate their level of importance of a list of variables that have been shown to be the result of peer support. The responses will be analyzed by the research team to determine which outcomes were agreed upon in round one. Approximately a week later, participants will once again rank their level of agreement (round two). In round two, they will be presented a smaller list of outcomes that will consist of the outcomes that were agreed upon in round one. If consensus is not reached in the second round, participants may be contacted to complete a third round.
