Attendant Carer in Hospitals Project

BAIL_ICON_ENGAGE_REHABILITATION

Overview

People with the lived experience of SCI have identified that health professionals in public hospitals lacked necessary knowledge and skills related to SCI. A number of ACC clients with highly individualised complex needs have requested their attendant carers provide their highly specialised and individualised services if they are in a public hospital to avoid potential SCI related complications.

The aim of this pilot project is to evaluate the experiences and outcomes of ACC clients with highly individualised complex needs having their attendant carers/support workers provide their highly specialised and individualised services while they are in a public hospital.

Method

One-to-one/face-to-face in-depth interview in person or via telephone/ Zoom were used to evaluate clients’ experience of having an attendant carer available to provide selected supports whilst they were in public hospital.
